YFC (Young Farmers' Club) is an organisation that dates back to the 1920's and was started to give young people in the countryside a way of socialising with other young people in their area. Today there are more than 700 clubs in England and Wales, with a total membership of over 20,000.
Whilst Young Farmers' Clubs still provide you with an opportunity to enjoy a dynamic social life, YFC now offers you so much more. By joining a Young Farmers Club, you have the opportunity to meet new people, learn skills, help the community, travel abroad and take part in a wide range of competitions at county, regional and national level, including sports, crafts and life skills.
Membership is open to anyone between the ages of 10 and 26.
The other unique attribute of YFC is that the members of clubs are the ones who run them. Not only is this another opportunity to learn and to gain new experience but it also means that clubs only do those things that they feel are fun and important.
Derbyshire Young Farmers consists of 10 clubs in 3 regions of the county. Clubs generally meet once a week with a meeting or trip and discuss forthcoming events and club business.
Some of the opportunities available to YFC members
YFC gives you a great opportunity to socialise and make many new friends. There are literally hundreds of YFC events every year ranging from local YFC discos to the County events.
There are many sports in which members can take part such as football, rugby, netball, hockey, ten pin bowling, tug of war and many more. The sports competitions are open to all members.
Both local and national charities benefit from fundraising carried out by YFC members in Derbyshire.
YFC offers a wide range of travel opportunities to its members, including the Discovery programme. The Discovery programme provides a unique opportunity for YFC members to travel, meet new people and experience other cultures. Trips vary from one week to six months.
Skills For Life
